On Tuesday, September 25, 2018, in Belgrade, a conference titled “STRENGTHENING FAMILIES – WINDOWS OF OPPORTUNITY” was held in Belgrade. The conference was organized by the Network of Organizations for Children of Serbia – MODS in cooperation with the Republic Institute for Social Protection with the support of UNICEF and under the auspices of the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veterans’ and Social Affairs.
The conference was devoted to issues of development of services and programs that will enable permanent, timely and adequate support to the family with children, in order to prevent the separation of children from families, that is, enable the return of children to their primary families, if the separation has occurred. A number of possibilities and resources have been considered, which already exist both in public and in the civil sector, and they need to be put into the function of strengthening the family and supporting the stay of children in their families.
In the beginning, the meeting was addressed by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veterans’ and Social Affairs, Nenad Nerić, Deputy Director of UNICEF in Serbia, Severin Leonardi, the professor at the Faculty of Political Sciences, Nevenka Žegarac and MODS Director Saša Stefanović.
Based on conclusions of conference there were produced R E C O M M E N D A T I O N S for the development and improvement of measures, services and programmes for the prevention of removal of children from families, i.e. for the return of children to their primary families if the removal has already happened
